In various magazine-interviews around 1988/1989 Larry spoke about plans for making a theatre-movie titled : "A Tacky Guy" , which was gonna be a sort of modern "West Side Story", to be filmed in Miami .... has anything been magnetised on tape , and in which stage was the process ? ( casting/script/storyboards/soundtrack)

yes Skyyflow!!! I didn't remember of this "A tacky Guy"!!on smash hits or number one of uk magazines!!, i had read a Cameo movie!!!!"a tacky guy"!! but never heard after..............too heard a Larry Blackmon solo around 1987!! but too this magazines tell Larry & co worked with Jermaine jackson????

I know I've said that a hundred times but there was also a smokin' video of emotional violence. I just saw it once but it really struck me. Larry & co in black leather with chains (like in the album cover) with flames coming out from the ground all around them...like i said... smoking

As for tv appearances, dont forget the great Sinbad Soul Festival in Aruba in 97. Also I am still searching for their perfomance on the 'Motown Live' tv show ! MP me if u got it

Tomi do you keep video archives ? What do you have in your vault ?

Hey Cameosis , i couldn't find the Fash record-info , so i'm not sure if this is the real Kevin playing on that record .

I have a few Dazz Band albums on which Kevin played and wrote :
_Invitation To Love - 1980/Motown
-keyboards
-writing-credits for : Carry On/Do It Again/Sooner Or Later

_Let The Music Play - 1981/Motown
-keyboards
-writing-credits : Let The Music Play/What Will I Do Without You/I Believe In You

_Here We Go Again - 1998/Intersound Urban
-keyboards

The Larry Blackmon solo-album was gonna be titled : " Product/Voice Of America" . As far as i know , the release was first planned for 1986 , later for 1989 . What's in the archives from this album ?

Cameosis , besides Jermaine Jackson ... were anything from these Blackmon-productions recorded or archived ?
- Gillian
- Hips - female trio from Atlanta
- Miki Howard
- Organised Crime
- Tity Brothers ( Nathan & Arnette Leftenant )
- unfinished work with Chaka Khan

Before Stargasm , Charlie Singleton played , sang and co-wrote on Billy Cobham's album " Simplicity Of Expression , Depth Of Thought "-1977/CBS.
-co-wrote : Pocket Change
-lead/background-vocals : Pocket Change / Opelousas
-guitar : Pocket Change / Opelousas / Bolinas / La Guernica

From Charlie's guest-performances with Bobby "Blue" Bland / Branford Marsalis / Cannonball Adderly / Dizzy Gillespie / Jim Hall / John McLaughlin / King Floyd and Marvin Gaye , i don't know any recording .

Charlie's 1985-composition " Earth To Micki " (from his first album ) has been recorded again by Chaka Khan , in 1986 .

I never saw any video from Charlie ... which ones do excist ?

Were these "I Wanna Boogie With You"-co-writers also Stargasm-members and what instruments did they play ? : Rick Darnell / Sammy Stewart

Peabo Bryson albums which Cameosis wrote about before :
I have these albums :
_Crosswinds - 1978/Capitol
- Thomas "T.C." Campbell - keyboards

_Don't Play With Fire - 1982/Capitol
- Anthony Lockett - guitar on "Give Me Your Love" / "Go For It" (super-album-opening track!) / Turn It On

On the Charles Earland album " Earland's Jam "-1982/CBS
- trax : " The Only One " - written by Larry / " Earland's Jam " - written by Larry & Anthony ( the BlackLock-team! :o) )
- cameo-appearances : Larry/Aaron/Anthony/Gregory & T.C.

One of my favourite Aaron Mills-jamz is " Spread The Word " , which he co-wrote on Kevin Toney's album " Special K "-1982/Fantasy :
Aaron's bass in this track sounds AWESOME deep & heavy ! ... did he use a MusicMan-bass ?
-Also he co-wrote : Chasin' Rainbows
-Lead vocals : Chasin' Rainbows / On Your Feet / Red Tape
-Jeryl Bright on background-vocals

.. i hope that some of it will be released on DVD , Funkygirl ....

Sooulseb , thanx for the smowkin' tip & description , about the "Emotional Violence"-video

More TV Appearances :

The Tube / U.K. - 1985 (BBC Network)

Image
This was a tv-music-show , presented by Jools Holland & Paula Yates .
In those days , the show was refreshing , because all the artists performed live in the studio . Currently , Jools has his own tv-version on the BBC , called "Later with Jools Holland" (mostly on Saturday-night).

Anyway , Larry & Crew were doing a U.K.-tour in 1985 , organised by Alec Leslie's company .
Besides Larry , Tomi and Nathan , i recognised :
- Michael Burnett - bass ( he played on a MusicMan-bass ... hard & heavy . I saw him also in the video's "Flirt" & "Single Life" )
- Kevin Kendricks , but he was not mentioned in the 1985-tourbook . Kenni Hairston was instead , but i couldn't spot him in the tv-special . Kenni by the way , did some great work on the rare "Network"-album ( "I Need You"-1984/Ramshorn - reissued now ) , and a few Slave albums ( "Bad E'Nuff"- 1983/Cotillion - "Next Plateau"-1984/Cotilloin )

Other musicians from the tour-book :
- Melvin Wells - saxophone
- Marvin Pryor - trombone
- Wayne Cobham - trumpet
- Sam Merindino - drums
- Patrick Buchanan - guitar ( saw him in the video's "Back & Forth"+"Candy")
- Eric Rehl - keyboards

Now , what did they play at The Tube ?... :
-intro by Nathan Leftenant , follwed by a medley of :
1. Alligator Woman/Let's Not Talk Slot
( heavy speed-up-thunder-funk-version which suddenly bursted into ....
... 2 . Keep It Hot ! ( in your FACE-funk  )
3. She's Strange/Room 123
4- Single Life
(their choreography in the whole performance was slammin')

Docklands Festival , U.K. - 1986 ( channel : unknown )
In this footage i saw : Larry , Tomi , Nathan , Aaron , Kevin , Patrick
some horn-players + Rayford Griffin - drums
( Rayford played in the Stanley Clarke Band ( Find Out-album /1985-Epic ) , Isley Brothers live-band 1994 / 3 years back , he released an album : www.cdbaby.com/cd/rayford
Performed trax :
1. Attack Me with Your Love
2. Candy
3. Single Life
4. Word Up
5. She's Strange/Room 123
( on www.ebay.com , there was sometimes a U.K.-manufactured poster on bid , which captures a concert-moment from that tour )

Interview with Larry ( wearing a green outfit and his shades from the "Single Life"-video ) . The interviewer , i remember from Music Box.
-subject : the Cameo-image
-video-segment : Word Up
-year : around 1986

"Back & Forth" in a t.v. show , on stage .
In here : Larry , Tomi , Aaron , Kevin , Partick + Sam
year : 1986/1987

Interview with Larry on Super Channel . U.K.
-subjects : Cameo-image / codpiece / making of Word Up
-interview-segment from Larry,Tomi & Nathan at the Montreux Pop Festival , Switzerland .

Machismo-special ( this could have been Sky or Super-Channel )
We see Larry being interviewed in his workout-gym , talking about the Cameo-business ( production of Jermaine Jackson is also mentioned here )
-video-segments : You Make Me Work / Word Up

MTV's New Years Eve special : BIG BANG '89
On stage , Cameo performs "Word Up" / "Skin I'm In"
The whole band wears smokin'outfits :
Larry , Tomi , Charlie , Aaron + more i didn't recognise

Belgium Funk-special called "The Funk's alive", somewhere around 1989/1990
-interview with Larry wearing his hairdoo from the "Real Men Wear Black"-album
-subjects: his musical influence / his opinion about Public Enemy and hiphop/rap in particular
-video-segments: I Want It Now / Skin I'm In
-also Chunky A's video "Owwww" is shown

Interview in Miami with Larry,Tomi & Nathan on MTV , around 1995
They had just finished street-ball outside , and now discussed about :
- their album "In The Face Of Funk "
- the music-industry
- the face-expression "fishmouth-funky"
- video-segment : Slyde

Interview with Larry & Tomi , at the Drum Rhythm Festival , 2000 / Netherlands
- channel : RTL5
- subject : Cameo-history & business / opninions about the different music-styles on the the festival ( techno-rave ) , and the music industry in general
- live-segment : Word Up

I saw this concert . In the band were Larry , Tomi , Charlie , Aaron , Jonathan Moffett and a unknown keyboard-player . Jonathan already toured with Cameo in 1982 ! :
Segments from "Modern Drummer"-magazine :
-"Nowadays Moffett shares his touring time with Cameo, a group he’s been associated with for twenty-five years."
-Jonathan: "I used one bass drum most of my life. I didn’t start getting into double bass until the ’81 Jacksons tour. That’s when I got my first double bass drum kit. I just started learning it then. And in ’84 I used two separate drums on the Victory tour. On Madonna’s first tour I used one bass drum. Then in ’86 with Jermaine Jackson I used two bass drums again. On my first tour with Cameo, in ’82, Larry Blackmon, Cameo’s leader—he was also the drummer—would have me play on his Tama kit, which had concert toms and double bass drums."
www.moderndrummer.com/web_exclusive.asp?alt=100011692
_Live-trax that i remember :
-Back & Forth
-She's Strange
-Word Up
-You Make Me Crazy ( from "Sexy Sweet Thing" ... sounded awesome ! )
-You're A Winner ( YES! ... finally )
- + more

Okay , another concert-experience :

_From the "She's Mine"-Tour , 22 October/1987 , Escape Theatre/Amsterdam/Netherlands
- the show started way past midnite ! ... the crowd was hyped
- this was their loudest concert i've ever heard
- the curtain went up , the stage was dark ... then a thundering voice bursted into the room : .... " AMSTERDAAAAAMMMMM !!!!! ... are you ready to jump and shout !!! .... to turn tha motha out !!! .... put your hands together ... for CAMEO !!!!!! "
- the stage-lights flashed on, with a full-armed band on stage . Aaron & Charlie came up marching to the front on the heavy intro from keyboards & drums ( drum-kit was placed on a high platform with a silver-shiny Cameo-logo )
- Nathan was a strong MC that nite ... he gave the opening-signal of a amazing Cameo-rollercoaster :

1.Alligator Woman/Keep it Hot
2. Larry welcoming the audience
3. Secrets Of Time ( Larry on drums )
4. Back & Forth
5. Flirt ( the BEST version i saw / i wrote about it in the topic "Cameo at Mohegan Sun in Conneticut Jan. 15th", from Joe Kelley)
6. solo : Bruce Carter (drummer from the band Pleasure )
7. solo : Aaron ( outrageously slapping )
8. solo : Charlie ( power-blues )
9. keyboard-intro by Kevin
10. Don't Be Lonely ( sax-solo by Melvin )
11. Sparkle ( sung by Willie Morris , nicknamed by Nathan as "the chill factor"/ right after this MC Nate ask the crowd if they enjoyed it so far ... then , he told everyone : "no matter how well you've been told ... it's how SLOW you go" ... followed by an infectious groove of ...
... 12. Slow Movin'
13. Talkin' Out The Side Of Your Neck
14. keyboard-intro by Kevin
15. Attack Me With Your Love
16. Candy ( sax-solo by Melvin )
17. She's Strange/Room 123
18. Single Life
19. Word Up
20. first encore : She's Mine
21. second encore : Freaky Dancin' / I Just Want To Be

the band : Larry , Tomi , Nathan , Charlie , Aaron , Kevin , Melvin , Jeryl +
- Willie Morris - keyboards /vocals
- Kenni Hairston - keyboards
- John Adams - keyboards
- Walter Perry - trumpet
- Bruce Carter - drums

As you can see , 4 keyboard-players and then some .... no wonder it was my loudest Cameo-experience

.. yeah , thatz a funny coincidence
.. i found it on an english site . The disc was also manufactured in the U.K. . The English record-company "Club" released a lot of special Cameo 12inches ( great picture-sleeves / double-sleeves / etc. ) too .
I think this might be the only picture-disc from them .

On behalf of my friend Ken, some interesting news from Mister T:

[] Well, we're still working over here. And we're putting a DVD package together for our 30th(!!) anniversary next year. We want to include a live show as well as documentary footage and pictures. Interviews with various artists we've met and performed with over the years. There's a chance we can make a small film and release it. We're pumped! I'm still doing my solo record and we're in the studio now doing tracks for a Cameo record this year. I'm also involved in other projects here in LA with a jazz artist. He's play's vibes. I'm writing and singing on a few tracks. I here we're doing a six week summer tour in Europe with Mother's Finest(don't know if you heard of them, a black rock act) and Living Color. I haven't heard anything definite yet, but I'll let you guys know.
Well, take care Ken
talk to ya soon.

Tomi

I wonder who is the jazz vibe artist ? Anybody we know ? An old cat like Bobby Hutcherson ? or a Stephon Harris maybe ?
The dvd package looks really interesting  Groups like Mandrill or Brothers Johnson had their own live dvd out lately, it's just fair enough CAMEO finally get a kick ass dvd too ! And not one of these lame Universal best of videos

So Cameosis I wrote to Tomi to talk about the future website today so... You must wait a little more but I'm not forgetting... As you said I worked since 2 years now on it to made it well and I won't forget it as the harder work (write all and found time, all the informations and illustrations, bought the record to have an advice... ) has been made now

So Tomi answered to me and said (as Soulseb already share with us) that the group is currently in Atlanta recording the new Cameo record...
Tomi said also to me that he recorded new tracks for his 2nd Solo lp...

They planed a 30th anniversary Dvd for next year
I post you the end of his message...
"Live show, classic videos, backstage footage and comments from as many people we've worked with in Cameo and the groups we've performed with. It's real ambitious and it's gonna be off the hook! An interactive website is also planned.

Well, take care Corinne and tell everyone hi for us.
Peace.
Tomi

I've just seen this Cameo's Laserdisc on ebay's auctions but unfortunately the seller does not accept to ship outside US and Canada (he confirmed it to me right now!!)

It would have been great to get that stuff, true?

I have that laserdisc.... And FG has seen it at my place already LOOOOL

Be careful that it hasn't been attacked by laser rot yet... this often happens with old laserdiscs.... the best video on this one os the SHAKE YOUR PANTS Video but those morons are running the credits over the end of the song.... how stupid can it get....
