Wowwww glad to see you paying hommage to the last musical wave that I really dug!!! It all went downhill after that!!!
Of course there's always the one personal favourite track that is missing but everyone would have turned a different selection although yours has some of the biggest 'hits' of the era which I love too!
Thanks for this special selection!

Probably so Funkiness, but the movement originated from the UK and it's most prominent actors were british. You gotta give credit where credit is due!
The UK has always been the innovator in the music trends these past decades, from the British Invasion in the 60's, to the Punk movement in 1977, Ska & Reggae in the 60's and 70's (of course it came from Jamaica but it gained much of it's international fame because of the england based community), the New Wave in the early 80's, and then acid jazz in the 90's... (and I'm not even mentioning Northern Soul, a typically british movement)

How did they manage to flood the world with all this? When we were never able to do anything worth a mention !?!?

when it comes to funk my dear Wonder B, Americans are always way ahead !

acid jazz made in USA sounds better to me, check the records I'm talking about

Home Cookin'
Mo' Cookin'
Still Cookin'

(it's actually on the Ubiquity label, a division of Luv'n'Haight)

Yes indeed Funkiness but the music movements I mentioned were the ones who flooded the entire planet and sold billions!
I am not so sure I prefer the US version of the acid jazz version although I like it a lot and do posess the albums you mention.

In my humble opinion, Acid Jazz is greatly underrated. I think that's due to a lot of terrible, misguided and dull musical experiements that have emerged from this era. But there are still some great records out there, which is why I decided to do this show.
Acid Jazz is not even a musical genre. Kinda like Grunge, it's a movement, which incorporated many different musical styles, in this case anything from New Soul to vintage Funk to Hip Hop to Jazz and even electronic music.
On my show, I focused on the soulful and jazzy side ... and I really enjoyed listening to some of these tracks again. I may do another edition of Acid Jazz songs sometime in the future.
I think it's worth to give it a listen ...

Yes Pari & Funkiness, yet they have a common thread that links them together and that's why it's not stale as some other music genres which have reproduced the same formula over and over again. I think that this very diversity that is shown under the Acid Jazz moniker IS what makes it interesting.

Let's not forget that the Acid Jazz movement was partly responsible for the big Funk revival of the 1990s. I got into vintage Funk because of Acid Jazz ...

oh, that's because you were too young soulbrother Pari

I'm into vintage funk since the early 80's

but you're right again, Acid Jazz is partly responsible - as much as rap - for the big funk revival of the 90's

When you're as old and senile as yourself, of course that explains why you have been into Funk since the 1980s.

However, it wasn't until the Acid Jazz movement that Funk become acceptable in club and DJ culture.

Oh yes I have been into Funk when it was not vintage but just fresh outtta the press! LOOOOOOOL

Hahahaha Pari when you say that Funk became acceptable for DJ's after Acid Jazz came, you just have to remember that in the 70's and early 80's they were playing NOTHING BUT FUNK (what is called 'vintage' today LOL) on the dancefloors! I know I was sweating my ass off on those songs.

I vividly remember 1978's New Year's party at the disco in Fort de France (French West Indies) where I used to go (and sometimes work as a bartender in order to increase my very shallow monthly pay) and the DJ that night played what could reasonably be called a "dream playlist" in 2009!

Ahhhhhhhh those memories... yes I maybe old but having lived that era makes it all up for it! Boy I am telling you, everybody had a WIDE grin on their faces when dancing back then. It was all about pure fun! A crazy and bygone (alas) era!
Just as the clock stroke midnight that evening and we all went together steppin' into 1979, he sent 'Le Freak' which was only 2 months old at that time and everybody went just nuts!!!!
People could go high just because of the groove! No additives necessary!

Oh, I know. But that was late 1970s, early 1980s Funk. When I mean vintage, I mean OLD. Like 1968 - 1973. The cuts I played on my Rare Funk shows on Midnight Soulstice. That music was never really mainstream - not even in the U.S. - and didn't make it into club culture until the 1990s.

Thanks for sharing the stories. Sounds like good times and is once again proof for how timeless this music is.

Yes but discotheques were not even popular in the 60's... music was either listened to at home or seen in concerts. The discos really started to be mainstream in the mid 70's that's why they started making 12" singles and then when the disco boom exploded, they started building those huge temples (54, Le Palace & such)

That's right .. which is why vintage Funk (pre-1975) didn't really hit the clubs until the 1990s ...

When I moved to the U.S. in 1994, I was one of the first to play old Funk in clubs. It was a concept unheard of, especially the 45 rpm format. To this day, you will find only a few clubs where DJs play vintage Funk. Most Funk parties happen at small bars, restaurants or underground clubs.

clubs barely played 60's or early 70's stuff in the late 80's, that's what pari was trying to say. They played boogie-funk, modern-soul, disco and so on. I think he's right. That kind of raw funk he's talking about has never been really popular, not untill the 90's revival
