Absolutly my man...

Looks like ya don't know what i'm talkin'bout'

If this one's missing in your jazz-funk quarter, ya should buy it as soon as possible, it's surely one of the best live EVER recorded in this form of music

Here's one exemple that has been sold for much less than his regular price..

As it seem to me you got a lot to say about mps, may i ask you this question:

Why does the " Live fom onkle po " (Peter herbolzeimer ) is still not repressed on lp, and neither on cd ? :qleft1:

It's a total bomb, and MPS has already repressed a few ones, but why not this one ? :smile21:

Cheers
Michel

I don't know. I don't think MPS is actually handling these reissues. A few years back, a buddy of mine in Berlin reissued a lot of MPS material on his Crippled Dick Hotwax label. But it also depends on locating the master and being able to license it. There's still much MPS out there to be discovered.

I don't know that one. But I know there are two versions of the song that are released on the deluxe CD edition of "Let's get it on".

This Friday, January 23, on Midnight Soulstice - Jazz-Funk legend Lonnie Liston Smith. He will actually join us in person in the studio for two hours. We will listen to his music, we will discuss his legacy (anything from his tenure with Miles Davis to his solo albums on Flying Dutchman) and the Obama inauguration.

Don't forget to tune in from 11 pm to 1 am on www.wrir.org And if you're too lazy to get up, we'll post the download the next day.

by the way as well, what is the original version of this Live? Live im Onkel Pö or The Catfish? :?: I thought it was the Catfish. Both are on Polydor and both are german pressing...

Will take advantage of the download for LL Smith   , cannot wait as well to hear what he has to say. Loved the Leroy Huston one.

Last night's show's motto was Deep Soul Tearjerkers - we carefully picked our most favorite 1960s Soul ballads on 45s. Whether you are a lover, playa or heartbroken - this one's one for the books! Get a box of Kleenex radio and groove hard !

Buddy Smith .. now that's deep!

Thanks, we've enjoyed this, too. As a club DJ, you never get to play the ballads, which is why I was especially excited about this show.

This is what's up for next week - the 1970s version of last night's show!

Since I moved to Virginia, I started collecting a lot of Soul and Funk from this state. Virginia was a vert vibrant hub for Soul and Funk in the 50s, 60s and 70s. In fact, we'll do an all Virginia Soul special on our radio show sometime soon.

Barbara Stant is a singer from Norfolk, Virginia. Next to Richmond, Norfolk was pretty happening back in the 1960s. Barbara released a few sides on Shiptown records, and "That man of mine" is the B-side of her track "Shadow in your footsteps", which is one of the most amazing deep Soul songs I've ever heard (I'll play it another time). Her records are all pretty hard to find - even here. This particular one I found in Tokyo, Japan, out of all places - and with about $30, it was terribly underpriced, because they had no idea what it was.

funkiness a écrit :How long can this last (Debbie Taylor)

I'm really excited about that one, too. It's the b-side of a real dance floor smash called "Don't let it end". When I was on tour in Europe in late '07, it turned out that I had a real winner with that one, because it packed every dance floor and nobody knew that record. Not bad for a 50 cents piece.

Some more info on Debbie Taylor. She had only a short career in music, and little is known of her ...

Actually, this show has tracks from both the North and South. I don't really get this Northern Soul thing .. it's a plain britsh phenomen but when you ask any Soul or Funk artist here in the States, they don't really care much for these strict classifications of styles - Northern Soul, Rare Groove, Deep Funk, etc .. it's all Soul music, and frankly, I don't give a shit either. I only care if the record is good. If not, fuck it.

You know what i'm thinking'bout ?, "Play us a slow song" from Joe Jackson's " Night & Day "lp...That describe quite well my thought.

I had the luck, 5 years ago to hear Tim Brown 's set from the first Paris Allnighter, in 2004. I KNEW that this was the first AND the last time to dance on these tragic tunes, this man knows what it's all about, as you are too.

So many, many thanks to you and the Pari's team !!

He played a set of ballads? Wow. Maybe we'll do a motto party like that too, someday. Here in the States, people want to dance from the very beginning until the end, especially because the clubs close so early. But usually, we drop a couple of slow tunes at the end, and it always goes over very well. I just don't know if people would be able to handle a full night of ballads. I know I would.

Pari, my remark was for Lemangedisque (Recordeater), not for you !

I totally agree with you about that Northern thing, that's hard to me to understand/adhere to. Frankly I prefer my Soul deep and Southern.

Mark it down in your calendar! On Friday, February 20, 11 pm - 1 am EST, one of the most famous and successful Soul acts of the 1970s will be joining us live on our radio show Midnight Soulstice - The New Birth!
The group was formed in Detroit in 1970 out of the instrumental Funk group The Nite-Liters by former Motown songwriters and producers Vernon Bullock, Harvey Fuqua and music industry veteran Tony Churchill. They are mostly known for their hits I Can Understand It, It's Been a Long Time, Wildflower and Dream Merchant, which featured the Wilson brothers Melvin and Leslie, who sung lead on the group's most famed material.

Both Melvin and Leslie will appear on Midnight Soulstice for our two-hour-special on The New Birth to discuss their music and legacy. For every Soul fan, this rare appearance is an absolute must - so get your streamers ready and download this show! Listen on 97.3 fm (Richmond) or the world wide live stream on www. wrir. org
